Bangladeshi police hunt cinema bombers
SATKHIRA, Bangladesh -- Bangladeshi police have stepped up the hunt for the men behind two crude bomb attacks. The explosions in a movie theater and circus late Saturday left several people injured and as many as three dead, though officials would not confirm anyone was killed. A police commander said there was no clue as to who was responsible for the attacks in Satkhira, 115 miles (185 km) south of the capital Dhaka, or their motive. "We are investigating while stepping up the hunt," Satkhira police superintendent Khandaker Golam Farook told Reuters. He declined to elaborate. Authorities said at least 135 people were injured, 30 of them critically. Eyewitnesses reported seeing three bodies so badly mutilated that they couldn't have survived. A district commissioner questioned whether members of an Islamic constitutional movement could be behind the attack, saying that the group has been recently protesting the circus shows and cinema screenings, saying that they were showing pornographic films. Home Minister Altaf Hossain Chowdhury flew to Satkhira on Sunday to visit the scene and meet police investigators. Reuters contributed to this report.
