Philippines jet crash kills six
MANILA, Philippines (CNN) -- A Philippines air force training jet has crashed into a residential area of Cabanatuan City, killing six people, including two on board the plane. The impact of the S-211 trainer jet destroyed four houses and injured at least five people when it crashed into the city, about 100 km (62 miles) north of Manila, Edilberto Yap, assistant secretary for the Philippine Air Transportation Office said on Monday. No official cause of the accident has been released, but Yap said he believed the plane was flying too low when it hit the homes. The trainer jet made a series of low passes over Cabanatuan before it crashed, Yap said.
He said that three houses court fire after the crash and several other homes were damaged. The pilot and co-pilot failed to eject, Yap added. The plane had taken off from the Philippine Clark air base about 32 km (20 miles) south of Cabanatuan. -- Journalist Cecilia Lazaro contributed to this report. |
