Strong quake rattles Indonesia

JAKARTA, Indonesian (CNN) -- A moderate shook the Indonesian capital Jakarta on Tuesday, hitting an estimated 6.0 in magnitude, according to the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics office.

The quake hit around 2:15 p.m. (2:15 a.m. ET) and lasted more than a minute, witnesses in Jakarta said.

Early reports put the epicenter of the quake in the Sunda Straits, a waterway located between Sumatra and Java, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) west of Jakarta.

According to the Meteorology and Geophysics office, no damage was reported in Jakarta or in coastal areas.

There were also no reports of tsunami -- a a series of long, high sea waves caused by seismic activity.
