Car crashes into train killing 4MADRID, Spain -- Four men have died after their car tumbled off a bridge into the path of a passenger train, emergency services have said. The Peugeot 205 crashed through the bridge's one-metre high guard rail near Madrid on Saturday taking out a support cable as it fell onto the tracks 10 metres below, witnesses said. The car was crushed after being pushed about 400 metres by the train before coming to a halt about 200 metres from the station. "The four occupants of the car, all men, would have been killed instantly when the car was hit by the train," a paramedic at the scene told Reuters. None of the passengers aboard the train were reported to be injured. "This is not the first time there has been an accident there," said one neighbour who asked not to be identified. "People come onto that bridge too fast and the rail is too low. If the rail were higher this would not have happened." |
