Concern grows for UK Brown's baby

EDINBURGH, Scotland -- The premature baby of the UK Chancellor Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah has suffered a brain haemorrhage.

Jennifer Jane was born seven weeks early by Caesarean section on December 28 weighing just 2lb 4oz.

She was transferred from Forth Park Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Fife, near Brown's Dunfermline East constituency home to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for tests.

Her condition has deteriorated during the past 24 hours, a statement on Sunday said.

A statement issued on behalf of the Browns confirmed that Jennifer was being treated for a brain haemorrhage.

The parents were still at their daughter's hospital bedside in the neo-natal unit.

No further details of Jennifer's condition, or her treatment, were being made available.
