Reports: Prince Harry attended 'rehab clinic'

LONDON, England -- The youngest son of Prince Charles and Diana, Princess of Wales, has received treatment at a drugs rehabilitation clinic.

Prince Harry was treated after he admitted to smoking cannabis and drinking alcohol, it has emerged.

Newspaper reports in London say his father sent the 17-year-old to visit Featherstone Lodge Rehabilitation Centre, in Peckham, south London.

A spokesman for Prince Charles's official office at St James's Palace did not deny the report.

The palace spokesman told CNN: "This is a serious matter which was resolved within the family, and is now in the past and is now closed."

It was reported that the Prince Harry went to the clinic for a day as a short, sharp shock.

According to a report in Sunday's edition of the News of the World, Charles told aides: "There is no point in hiding the truth. These are the facts -- let people make their own judgment."

Prince Charles sent his son to the clinic after finding out that the teenager had taken illegal substances at Highgrove private parties.

Prince Harry is also said to have drank alcohol at the Rattlebone Inn, Sherston, Wiltshire.

In a separate newspaper report, to appear in The Mail on Sunday, the prince was also at the centre of a police investigation into after-hours drinking at a pub near his Highgrove home.

The inquiry began after the prince was involved in a mock fight during a late night pool playing session, the paper reported.

He is said to have insulted a French employee and was ordered to leave the premises, the report said.

The landlady of the Rattlebone Inn in Sherston, Wiltshire, Emma Carter-Williams, reportedly told the newspaper: "Everyone knows Prince Harry's barred but I don't want to talk about it. He's not the only one."

But in a statement to the Press Association on Saturday, she said: "Any member of the Royal Family is welcome to visit our establishment at any time."

The newspaper said the inquiry was sparked by an incident last January, when Prince Harry was locked out of the pub by two friends during an after-hours pool playing session.

During the ensuing scuffle the prince was asked to leave by chef and under-manager Francois Ortet.
