French SFOR solider dies in crash

SARAJEVO -- One French soldier was killed on Sunday and two others were injured when their military helicopter crashed into the Adriatic sea near the Croatian coast.

The NATO-led Bosnian Stabilisation Force (SFOR) peacekeeping force in Bosnia said in a statement the Gazelle helicopter crashed close to the Croatian coastal town of Ploce, about 30 kilometres (20 miles) from the Bosnian border, with three crewmembers on board.

"One person died in the crash," the statement said. "Two persons were injured but their (lives are) out of danger."

Croatian fishermen had alerted authorities to the crash and made the first rescue attempts, the statement said.
