'Millions' stolen at UK airportLONDON, England (CNN) -- Robbers have stolen a "substantial amount" of money from Heathrow Airport after they held up a security van, police have told CNN. The money, believed to be worth several millions of pounds, had come in on a plane from Bahrain, early on Monday. The Associated Press has said $6.5 million was taken in the raid, while other news agencies have put the figure at $5 million.
The cash had been put in a security van in a secure area near Terminal 4 before it was stopped by two people. The driver of the security van, who was believed to be on his own, had his wrists bound and the robbers transferred the money to another British Airways vehicle that they drove away in. The driver was being treated for shock. |
