Joan Collins becomes Mrs Gibson
LONDON, England -- Actress Joan Collins has become Mrs Gibson in an "emotional" ceremony which the couple managed to keep private despite the attention of the media. Collins, 68, wore a full length lilac silk gown with a train to wed her 36-year-old partner Percy Gibson at the luxury London hotel Claridges on Sunday. After the 45 minute ceremony, Collins' international press spokeswoman, Stella Wilson, emerged from the hotel and said: "Joan Collins is now Mrs Gibson. "It was a very emotional ceremony. They exchanged traditional vows. We all cried, including Joan." Collins' marriage to the half-Scottish, half-Peruvian Percy, is her fifth. Her spokeswoman said she could not disclose any more details because the wedding was under exclusive rights to OK! Magazine, a deal which could reportedly earn the couple up to £2 million.
But film and music stars who were on show among the 175 guests included former 007 Roger Moore, singer Shirley Bassey and Ruby Wax. The ups and downs of Collins' love life and her successful acting and writing career have been in the public eye for five decades. Despite worldwide recognition, especially thanks to the U.S. television series Dynasty, it is arguably her four marriages and subsequent divorces which have made her most famous. She was just 18 when she married first husband actor Maxwell Reed in 1952, followed by a marriage to actor, singer and songwriter Anthony Newley in 1963. Then came producer Ron Kass in 1972 and Swedish singer Peter Holm in 1985. Collins had said before the ceremony: "Quite frankly, I really like being married. I know there are no guarantees in life. But Percy and I both feel so strongly about each other that we are making this ultimate commitment." |
