Moscow bomb threat man arrested
MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- A man who threatened to blow up a car laden with 1.5 tons of explosive outside the ex-KGB offices in Moscow has been arrested. Police are questioning the man who also said he had an automatic rifle, the Russian police press service said. But a search of the vehicle only revealed cement, the agency said. Traffic had come to a halt after the man threatened to blow up a car near the Russian Federal Security Service headquarters, the successor to the Soviet-era KGB, at about 2.30 p.m. (1130 GMT) on Thursday. He had demanded to speak with high-ranking government officials. Witnesses said police and the man negotiated for more than 90 minutes, news reports said. The area was later re-opened. Russia is marking a day of mourning for the 116 servicemen killed in a military transport helicopter crash over Chechnya on Monday. (Full story) |
