Blair pushing for action on Bali
LONDON, England (CNN) -- UK Prime Minister Tony Blair says he will press for further co-ordinated international action to deal with extremist groups following the bombings on the Indonesian island of Bali. "We have yet again evidence of the appalling depths to which these extremists will sink," Blair told reporters gathered outside Number 10 Downing Street on Monday. Blair, who will make a fuller statement to parliament on Tuesday, said: "We are dealing with extremist groups whose activities know no frontiers and whose evil knows no limits. "It is important now that we consider what further action we can take at an international level to make sure that these groups are dealt with and dealt with properly before many more innocent lives are lost." His comments came as UK Foreign Secretary Jack Straw prepared to leave for Washington where he will hold talks with U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell. Straw, speaking earlier on Monday, said that the war against terrorism would be top of the agenda for their meeting. The Indonesian defence minister is reported to have said he believes al Qaeda are behind the Bali bomb blasts on Saturday that killed more than 180 people and injured some 300. More than 200 people remain missing. (Full story) Many of those who died were young tourists from Australia and Europe who were packed into the Sari nightclub in the resort of Kuta. Thirty-three Britons are feared to be among those killed in the blasts. A team of counter-terrorism officers from London's Metropolitan Police is already in Singapore on standby to assist the Indonesian authorities if required.
