Driving licence to kill
LONDON, England (CNN) -- Weapons and gadgets featured on the cars from the latest James Bond movie, "Die Another Day," will be demonstrated at the British International Motor Show when the cars are unveiled to the public. In the latest film, which is released later this year, the British agent 007 is back in an Aston Martin as his main car for the first time in 15 years, driving the new £160,000 ($248,000), 200mph Vanquish model. The movie's villain, Zao, drives a 400bhp Jaguar XKR convertible while the latest Bond girl, Oscar-winning actress Halle Berry, is behind the wheel of the new Ford Thunderbird. The cars' weapons, such as spiked tyres, side rocket launchers and restractable machine guns, will be demonstrated on Tuesday at the National Exhibition Centre in Birmingham by their designers. They are Peter Lamont, the Academy Award-winning production designer who has worked on 17 Bond films since Goldfinger, Nick Finlayson and Andy Smith. This will be the only time that the weapons and gadgets are publicly demonstrated. Aston Martin, the British sports car maker now owned by U.S. giant Ford, will be hoping for a sales boost from the latest film. When Sean Connery drove a DB5 in the 1964 Bond film Goldfinger, it was one of the most important product placements in the history of cinema, according to the company's historian. "What the first Bond movie did was a phenomenon," Roger Stowers told Worth magazine. "Absolutely unique. In one week we became one of the most famous motorcar companies in the world." Other cars driven by the suave British agent in his various guises over the years include an amphibious Lotus Esprit, in "The Spy who Loved Me," a racy Citroen 2CV in "For Your Eyes Only," and more recently a BMW Z8 by Pierce Brosnan in "The World is Not Enough."
