Prince Harry voted 'stud' of 2002
LONDON, England -- Prince Harry has been crowned the hottest date of 2002 in a list of Britain's most eligible bachelors. The 18-year-old, who has appeared in a series of scandal stories in tabloid newspapers this year, was named the most dateable "stud" of the year by society magazine Tatler. Harry, who is the second son of Prince Charles, heir to the British throne, and the late Diana, Princess of Wales, beat the likes of Kylie Minogue's ex-boyfriend James Gooding and Arsenal footballer Freddie Ljungberg to the title. His older brother, William, who is normally near the top of such surveys, failed to be nominated because it was open to those living in London only, and he is currently a student in Scotland. A resident of London who did cause a stir in the ratings was 79-year-old artist Lucian Freud, who is in second place. Actress Gwyneth Paltrow topped the list of 2002's most dateable "sirens" followed by Lady Gabriella Windsor and model Sophie Dahl. Tatler editor Geordie Greig said: "Harry has come of age this year and he has a naughty but nice element to him. He's irreverent, mischievous and terrific looking. "He has just arrived on the London scene and the girls are going absolutely berserk over him." Greig said that septuagenarian Freud scored so highly because he had a "youthful genius" which would put many younger men to shame. Paltrow has a "glittering attraction" and has impressed the list-compilers with her intelligence and charm -- and her decision to relocate to London. Others who make the grade are Liz Hurley and her former partner Hugh Grant, along with actor Rupert Everett, and 'It' girl Tara Palmer-Tomkinson. As befits the magazine dubbed the "society bible", members of the aristocracy feature heavily in Tatler's list.
