Human cloning: Have your say
LONDON, England (CNN) -- An Italian fertility doctor, who has claimed without proof in the past that several women are carrying cloned babies, has said that one of the children would be born in early January. Is the idea of cloning morally wrong? Dr. Severino Antinori, who runs a private fertility clinic in Rome, gained attention in the 1990s when he used donor eggs and hormones to help post-menopausal women to have children. With the unborn child developing in an "absolutely healthy" way and if the birth is successful, what will this mean for the future of cloning humans? Theresa Cloning a human one to one is just the beginning. In the coming decades we will see genetically optimised and mutated humans in all forms and shapes. This is where physical evolution is taking us and we should learn to accept it. After all it is not the physical features that define the essence of a human being but his or her mind and spirit. But to simply outlaw or demonise cloning without first considering the enormous benefit potential to our race is outright foolishness. To blindly oppose cloning, would be tantamount to preventing a possible cure for cancer or the virus that causes AIDS. I am not a scientist but I do know that those who are, need to make sure that they are acting responsibly and not jumping the gun. Wanda I think that someone trying to clone anything, human or animal, is the most disgusting thing. Anyone who would do that is simply trying to get in the news. I only hope that if a cloned child is born, there will be no defects, such as in Dolly the sheep, for the baby's and parents' sakes. And I cannot think of a single reason why it is medically necessary. What benefit does cloning provide that has not been already addressed? Cloning is a ray of hope that some day they maybe able to have their own biological child. I feel cloning needs to be strictly regulated. Cloning will never be about duplicating someone in its entirety -- I think it's still far from possible, simply because we have no clue what happens to the embryo when it develops. Surely we need to improve on our present human responses before we condone "scientific" endeavours which result in more people with the same troubles we can't handle now. Additionally, it would be interesting to know if he is operating within the laws concerning cloning of his country/city/state. For those who offer the argument of allowing those who can not conceive to have children, there is adoption. If you do successfully clone a human, what will you do then? Try to sell us on how you can get your own clone to help you with your chores. This is disgusting, organs are one thing, they help people who would not be able to live otherwise, enjoy life. But intentionally trying to create your own humans is irresponsible and immoral. Jeremy
