UK charges six under Terror Act
LONDON, England -- Four men and two women are due to appear in a London court charged with membership of a terrorist organisation. The six -- five Turkish nationals and one Briton -- were arrested at addresses in London and Cheshire, north west England, and charged under the Terrorism Act yesterday. Police said the charges relate to being a member of a proscribed organization, thought to be the outlawed Revolutionary People's Liberation Party-Front, and "facilitating the retention or control of terrorist property." The four men are Songul Ozgur, 26, Rory O'Driscoll, 29, and Allaatin Kalander, 38, all from north London, and Gurkan Gar, 39, from Hyde, Cheshire. The two women, both from north London, are Selver Kapan, 30, and Birten Kalayci, 30. All face the same charges and will appear at Bow Street Magistrates Court, in central London, on Monday. The Terrorism Act 2000 bans 25 alleged international terror groups, making membership or support of them illegal.
