At least 2 killed in Gaza car blast
GAZA CITY (CNN) -- A member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was among two people killed Thursday in an explosion in a Gaza refugee camp late Thursday, Palestinian sources said. Jihad Alaniri, a 47-year-old member of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, and his nephew died in the explosion at the Shati refugee camp. Palestinian sources said a bomb was planted in the car and indicated they believed the explosive was placed there by Israeli security forces. The Israel Defense Forces would not comment on the explosion. Ha'aretz, the Israeli daily newspaper, said smoke from the burned and mangled car rose over the area. The Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades is an offshoot of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's Fatah movement that has claimed responsibility for numerous attacks on Israeli civilians. The group has been designated a terrorist organization by the U.S. State Department. |
