Israeli forces stage Gaza incursionJERUSALEM (CNN) -- During an Israeli military sweep in central Gaza early Friday, Israel Defense Forces apprehended a Palestinian man wanted by Israeli security, the IDF said. The Israeli forces were shot at by Palestinian gunmen, according to the IDF, and returned fire. Two Palestinians were killed and two others wounded during the 4 a.m. (9 p.m. EDT) incursion into Deir El Balah, Palestinian sources said. According to the Palestine Red Crescent Society, a 19-year-old Palestinian and a 22-year-old Palestinian policeman were killed. Also overnight, Israeli troops discovered a tunnel used for smuggling arms from Egypt to Gaza in an operation along the Israeli-Egyptian border, according to the IDF. A Palestinian photographer died Friday morning, according to the Red Crescent, after being shot hours earlier by Israeli soldiers in the West Bank city of Jenin. Imad Subhi Abu, 35, was hit in the leg when the soldiers opened fire on a group of civilians, Palestinian sources said. The IDF said soldiers returned fire after Palestinians fired at them. Separately, IDF troops operating throughout the West Bank arrested 15 Palestinians suspected of terrorist activity. |
