Official: Hamas target survives Israeli attack

JERUSALEM (CNN) -- A member of Israel's security cabinet said Friday the target of a deadly missile strike near Gaza City a day earlier survived the attack, according to Israeli Army Radio.
Science Minister Matan Vilnai told army radio that Mohammed Deif, the Hamas chief planner and master bombmaker, "did not suffer a life-threatening injury," according to reports Vilnai said he has received.
An Israeli helicopter fired missiles on a car near Gaza City Thursday, killing two other members of the militant Hamas group.
Hospital officials said 40 other people, including 15 children, were wounded in the attack.
In another Israeli anti-terror operation early Friday, Israeli military sources reported Israeli forces killed a Hamas militant in the West Bank town of Hebron that they had been sent to arrest.
They said Muhamad Yarmour, 21, opened fire on the Israel Defense Forces and was killed in the exchange of fire.
The Palestinian Red Crescent Society said Yarmour was "assassinated" by Israeli military forces around 4 a.m. (9 p.m. EDT Thursday) in his house.
Another Palestinian who was with him was arrested, military sources said.
