Two killed in mall bombing in Israel
KFAR SABA, Israel (CNN) -- An explosion set off by a suicide bomber rocked a shopping mall in this town near Tel Aviv Monday, killing two people and the bomber, police said. Hospital officials said at least 20 people were wounded, one seriously. An infant and a 2-year-old girl were among the wounded, the officials said. Police said the two people killed were a security guard and a shopper. The blast took place inside the Canyon Arim mall next to an electronics store and near a restaurant called the Burger Ranch, witnesses told Israeli television. (Bombing scene) They said the bomber detonated the blast as he stood near a group of people. In calls to news organizations, a group identifying itself as the Jerusalem Brigades claimed responsibility for the bombing. Jerusalem Brigades is apparently a new group with possible links to both Islamic Jihad and Hamas. The caller said the bombing was in response to the killing of two Hamas members whose car exploded early Monday at Nablus, West Bank. (More on Hamas) Palestinian sources identified one of those killed in Nablus as Hamed El-Sader, 37, from the Askar refugee camp. The Israel Defense Forces had no comment on the incident. In southern Gaza, Palestinian hospital officials said a Palestinian man had been shot and killed by a sniper at Rafah. The man was identified as Ahmed Abdel Kager Othaman, 24, a member of the Palestinian national guard. While Palestinian security sources said the Israel Defense Forces were responsible, the IDF said it was unaware of any shooting in the area.
