Sources: 2 Palestinians killed in Gaza
GAZA CITY, Gaza (CNN) -- Two Palestinian men were killed overnight Sunday in northern Gaza during Israeli military operations, sources said. Israeli troops shot dead Mahmud Inarani, 32, during clashes, according to Palestinian sources. The Israeli army said Palestinian gunmen opened fire toward the troops, who returned fire and hit some of the gunmen. The body of 70-year-old Ashur Dhab was found under the rubble of his son's house in Beit Lahia after the Israeli army demolished it, sources said. The son, Hisham Dhab, is an Islamic Jihad activist who planned a March 1996 suicide attack in Tel Aviv that killed 20 Israelis, the Israel Defense Forces said. According to Palestinian security sources, the father refused to leave the house before it was detonated. But the IDF said there was no indication that anyone was in the house. The IDF said that the procedure before demolition "lasts typically one to two hours" and includes use of loudspeakers and searches of the homes to be demolished. Israeli troops demolished other houses, the IDF said, including those of Ahmad Amura, a Hamas activist who planned an ambush in June near the settlement of Dugit in northern Gaza that killed three soldiers; and Jihad Al-Matsri, a Hamas activist who carried out a December 2001 shooting attack in Gaza that killed one Israeli. The demolitions were in the towns of Jabalia and Beit Lahia. Palestinian Islamic Jihad is a militant group dedicated to the creation of an Islamic Palestinian state and the destruction of Israel. Hamas also is a radical Palestinian fundamentalist group. The U.S. State Department lists both as terrorist organizations.
