Mosque hit in airstrike, says Iraq
BAGHDAD, Iraq (CNN) -- A coalition strike Thursday in the southern part of Iraq killed three people and struck a mosque, according the Iraqi News Agency. The U.S. Central Command said the warplanes struck an Iraqi military command and control facilities. The strike took place in response to Iraqi aircraft violating the southern no-fly zone. The facilities, struck with precision-guided munitions, were near Talil, 175 miles southeast of Baghdad, said Central Command. An Iraqi military spokesman said planes targeted civilians sites in the provinces of Basra and Nassiriyah, killing three people and wounding 16. He said anti-aircraft guns fired at the jets and forced them to return to bases in Kuwait and that a mosque was bombed on the outskirts of Nassiriyah. It was the first strike in the southern no-fly zone since December 20, said Central Command.
