Rivaldo raring to go
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia -- Brazil striker Rivaldo has shaken off a knee injury and is ready to terrorise the world's defences again. Coach Luiz Felipe Scolari says his hitman is back in training and could feature in Saturday's friendly against Malaysia, where the squad is warming up for the World Cup. "There is no problem with his fitness level," Scolari said on Tuesday. "He is now being put through physical and technical training. "He is training with the ball and slowly getting integrated with the team. He is in perfect condition. Who can comment about Rivaldo? It is the doctor, and he has declared Rivaldo fit."
Rivaldo said: "I have started training with the rest of the squad, I have started training with the ball and I am available for Saturday's game. "It depends on the coach, but if it depended on me then I would like to play the full 90 minutes. But obviously the coach is likely to want to test some other players and I have to accept that." Rivaldo was on the sidelines at the weekend nursing his right knee as Brazil trained in Barcelona, where the 30-year-old plays his club football. His injury kept him out of the last five games of the Spanish season and both legs of Barcelona's Champions League semifinal defeat against Real Madrid. The game against Malaysia is the last warm-up for four-times champions Brazil before their first group game against Turkey in South Korea on June 3. China and Costa Rica are their other group opponents. Striker Ronaldo and fullback Roberto Carlos are also in line to play against Malaysia where the squad touched down on Monday. Scolari added: "We are not ready yet for the World Cup. When we reach Korea we will be ready. If we show our quality, we will achieve our objective." |
