THIS IS A RUSH TRANSCRIPT. THIS COPY MAY NOT BE IN ITS FINAL FORM AND MAY BE UPDATED.
DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: Going back to our breaking news situation in Southern California in Culver City. A number of employees being held hostage, apparently inside of a Target Department Store. Police on the scene right there.
Culver City, for those of you familiar with the area, in the Los Angeles area, these -- Los Angeles area, very close to LAX, also Venice Beach.
These are live picture we are showing. This is the parking lot of the Target store. Police had just approached this van very carefully with their guns drawn. Unclear at this point who might be a suspect, who might be an employee. So police are treating everyone basically as a suspect until they can clear them, and make sure, as the public information officer said, whether they are one of the good guys or the bad guys.
Of course. we are using all of our affiliate services in Southern California to bring you the latest on this story.
Now this report from Jennifer York (ph), who is in the helicopter, with our affiliate KTLA.
These were employees that escaped out of the back of the Target. The Target is located at Jefferson and Sepulva (ph), and I apologize, I have got a lot of stuff going on in my headset at the moment.
But basically, what is causing so much confusing now is when this robbery occurred, it happened say about 5:00 this morning, there was an overnight shift of about 50 employees inside this Target, they're saying now that the suspects, they are saying that there are three armed men, they are now wearing Target clothing. And that is why they're going through this procedure. They're checking every singe person that did escape from the building to make sure that they are victims and not the suspects.
And the reason why and how they're doing that is that there is apparent a manager near the police unit of Target and he is IDing the employees. So that is what the situation is at this point.
Now, I am hearing conflicting information that the suspects are part of this group, or that they possibly could still be in the store. So I need to stay on top of this to get you more information. At this point, there have been no shots fired, and they are just having to ID every single individual that ran out of this store. And again, the tough part about this is is that the suspects apparently are wearing Target clothing.
I am Jennifer York, at SkyCam 5, flying over Culver City. This is a situation that is still in progress, I must say, it definitely has not come to a conclusion
KAGAN: And once again, Jennifer York, from our affiliate KTLA, channel 5 in Los Angeles, actually pointing something very important as to why there is some confusion as to who might be an employee, who might be a gunman, as we go back to our live pictures.
Apparently reports from the scene, the gunman, the alleged gunman who would be inside apparently has put on Target employee clothing. So it's hard to tell who might be a gunman and who might be an employee who was just taken hostage. Police treating that situation very carefully this morning in Culver City.
